1. Scope of this policy
This privacy policy applies to personal information handled by Black Beard Garage through this website, by email or telephone, through social media, and in connection with workshop enquiries, bookings and services.
We aim to handle personal information responsibly and in accordance with privacy laws that apply to our activities in Australia.
2. Information we may collect
The information we collect depends on how you deal with us and may include:
- your name, telephone number, email address and contact preferences;
- vehicle details such as make, model, year, registration, condition, service history and reported symptoms;
- details of the service, repair, inspection, modification or upgrade you request;
- booking, quotation, invoice, payment and warranty-related information;
- messages, photographs, documents or other material you choose to give us; and
- standard technical information that website hosting or security services may process, such as browser type, IP address, date and time of access, referring page and error or security logs.
Please do not send information that is not reasonably needed for your vehicle enquiry.
3. How we collect information
We generally collect information directly from you when you call, email, submit or prepare a website enquiry, communicate through social media, visit the workshop, request a quote, authorise work or collect your vehicle.
We may also receive relevant information from a person you authorise, a parts supplier, an insurer, a roadside or towing provider, or another repairer where this is reasonably necessary for the requested work.
4. How we use information
We may use personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and arrange or manage bookings;
- inspect, diagnose, quote, service, repair or modify a vehicle;
- order suitable parts and communicate progress or changes;
- issue invoices, process payments and maintain service records;
- manage warranty, safety, insurance or dispute-related matters;
- operate, secure and improve our website and business processes; and
- comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We will not use your personal information for unrelated marketing without your consent where consent is required. You can ask us to stop direct marketing at any time.
5. When information may be shared
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to service providers that support our operations, such as website hosting, email, accounting, payment, parts supply, towing, technical or professional advisory services. These providers should only use information for the relevant service or as required by law.
We may also disclose information where you authorise us, where disclosure is required or permitted by law, to protect safety or legal rights, or in connection with a business sale or restructure subject to appropriate confidentiality arrangements.
Some technology providers may process data outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps appropriate to the service and applicable law. You may contact us for more information about a particular disclosure relevant to you.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Website, booking form and chatbot
Booking form
Our online booking form is provided through MechanicDesk and is embedded in this website. When you submit a booking request, the customer, contact, vehicle and service information you enter is sent to MechanicDesk and Black Beard Garage so that we can review, manage and respond to your request. MechanicDesk’s handling of information is also governed by its applicable privacy terms.
Basic chatbot
The website chatbot provides scripted answers to common questions. Its conversation is processed in your browser for the current page session and is not intended for booking confirmations, quotes or urgent mechanical advice. Do not enter sensitive, financial or confidential information into the chatbot.
Cookies and technical logs
This website does not intentionally set advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting or security provider may process standard technical logs needed to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the site.
External links
Embedded services and links to MechanicDesk, mapping, social media, WhatsApp or other third-party services are governed by those services’ privacy practices. We are not responsible for how an external service handles information after you use it or leave our website.
7. Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures appropriate to the information we hold. No method of online transmission or storage is completely secure, so please contact us by telephone if an enquiry should not be sent by email.
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected, our business records, warranties, dispute handling, safety matters or legal and tax obligations. Information that is no longer required is deleted, destroyed or de-identified where reasonably practicable.
8. Access and correction
You may ask to access personal information we hold about you or request that inaccurate or outdated information be corrected. We may need to verify your identity before responding. In limited circumstances, access may be refused where permitted by law; if so, we will explain the reason where required.
